Yoga
Yoga at Kate Greenaway Nursery
Yoga offers numerous benefits for children, supporting their development across all areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). Led by our dedicated Yoga Champion, these sessions provide a fantastic opportunity for enrichment, fostering a sense of love and nurture in every child while promoting holistic growth.
Personal, Social, and Emotional Development
Practising yoga in small groups helps children feel comfortable, express themselves, and develop confidence. Children learn to appreciate their abilities, embrace new challenges, and understand that practice leads to improvement. This nurturing environment reinforces positive self-esteem and perseverance.
Communication and Language
Through engaging yoga stories and visual aids, children expand their vocabulary and communication skills. They follow instructions, enhancing their ability to focus and remain present. Mindfulness practices support resilience and adaptability, equipping children with valuable life skills.
Physical Development
Yoga builds strength, flexibility, and coordination. Children explore movement patterns such as twisting, stretching, and balancing, which foster brain development and physical growth. Balancing poses often turn challenges into joyful moments filled with laughter. Independence is encouraged as children manage footwear and roll up their mats, taking pride in their responsibilities.
Literacy
Incorporating storytelling into yoga sessions encourages children to connect with narratives, select favourite poses, and describe how they feel. Books like Yoga Bug: Simple Poses for Little Ones enhance imagination and emotional expression, supporting both physical and mental well-being.
Mathematics
Children explore early math concepts by listening to the sound of a singing bowl and counting before greeting each other with “Namaste.” Spatial awareness is cultivated as they practice yoga safely within their personal space on individual mats.
Understanding the World
Children are introduced to positive cultural practices that enrich their understanding of the world and promote well-being. They explore the origins of yoga and its calming effects, fostering a deep connection to nature and encouraging emotional self-regulation.
Expressive Arts and Design
Yoga inspires creativity and self-expression through imaginative movement and relaxation music. The sequences enhance memory recall as children joyfully anticipate each pose, fostering cognitive growth and artistic exploration.
Guided by our Yoga Champion, children thrive in a nurturing environment where they learn to love movement and mindfulness. Consistent yoga practice nurtures happiness, resilience, adaptability, independence, and self-regulation—equipping children with essential skills for a positive and fulfilling future.
